WATCH: “Possibility” by Lykke Li

This is beautiful. I can’t get over how much the song strikes me despite its simplicity. Perfect video with the song.

Lykke Li, Possibility

From Lykke Li herself:

Here you go, Internet.
The first live performance EVER of this song:
An homage to an idea lost in the fire.
Fortunately for us all, two camera men happened to be lurking in the shadows while me and my band got our groove on for the first time since we recorded it.
Why the wait one might think? Well, me as well as other things had to dwell and change shapes for a while but now… Winter became spring. There is hope again!
Enjoy.
Much love.

WATCH: “Best of Class” by Late of the Pier

New video release from Late of the Pier. Fun almost dinky song that turns into utter chaos featuring some interesting camera work, girls girls girls and a creepy old lady.

WATCH: “You Got the Dirtee Love” by Florence and the Machine & Dizzee Rascal

Dizzee Rascal and Florence Welch doing a live performance from the 2010 Brits. I’ve seen a few videos of Florence and the Machine performances - even though she has such strong potential, most performances of hers are kind of inconsistent (either ridiculously good or mediocre). This video definitely is one of her strongest vocal performances I’ve seen though. Also, theres gold confetti, multiple disco balls and harps; plus Florence freaking emerges from a giant disco ball. Wish this were my life.

WATCH: Knightlife II Promotional Video by Knightlife

Um I can’t help posting cool promo videos like this one. Australia’s Knightlife is coming out with a record soon and put out this really inventive promo video which features quick samples of the songs on Knightlife’s II:

Knightlife’s ‘II’ release is like a time capsule that comes simultaneously from the past and the future, laiden with visceral robot funk groove in equal proportion to time honoured disco craft. The knight has returned: join him or be destroyed.

BTW, me and that gold pants dude are soulmates. More information over at Cutters Records

DOWNLOAD: “Change of Heart (Rakamonie Remix)” by El Perro Del Mar (right click, save as)

Wow theres been a whole lot of Swedish love on Beatcakes today. El Perro Del Mar is releasing an album in March titled Love is Not Pop and has a whole lot of help from other Swedes to promote. This Rakamonie remix is the one featuring Robyn - it’s a bit synthed and sped up but still minimalistic. I prefer Robyn’s remix to the original and have thus posted it here. Meanwhile, check out the video for a refreshing acoustic version of “Change of Heart” featuring Sarah Assbring on the guitar, harmonizing with Lykke Li. Quite beautiful and simplistic.

By the way, totally miss seeing new Lykke Li acoustic renderings in bathrooms, Stockholm streets, etc. This also feels appropriate to bring up the last time that Lykke Li did an acoustic set of videos with Sarah Assbring. Make sure to watch the Lykke Li x El Perro Del Mar versions of “Dance Dance Dance” and “After Laughter Comes Tears” (I like that version better than the recording).

WATCH: “Ice Queen” by Hot Sugar

I love love love the concept behind this music video. The video itself reminds me of Eric Wareheim’s work with zexy dancers and trippy visuals but got to give it up to Hot Sugar for developing the song to the video. Fits perfectly with the quirky upbeatness of the visuals. Here’s a bit of background:

Instead of making a video based on an existing song, the Ice Queen video project challenged musical artist Hot Sugar to produce an original song based on the final version of a music video after it had been made. To create the video an open call was put out to New York City actors and dancers encouraging them to come perform completely original dance moves in front of a green screen. After weeks of editing and animation the video was handed to Hot Sugar who was charged with the task of creating a song based on the compilation of dance moves and performances.

WATCH: “Leave Me Alone (David Wolf Remix)” by The Suzan

Um. Watch The Suzan fight a battling seizure robot and hop around like they normally do. Aside from that, theres a killer beat that kind of reminds me of Justice’s “Planisphere” epic.
