So CMJ is over and I’m feeling a little lost with life..just kidding sort of. After going through a bit of a show deficit, attending the few CMJ showcases I went to made me rethink what I love about music.

All music needs to be for me is:

• Talented performer
• Good vibes
• Energetic crowd

Thank you CMJ for reinstilling this into me. Case in point, The Suzan at the Fool’s Gold showcase. The Suzan are 4 crazy girls straight up from Japan. They play alternative fun rock with a bit of synths and duck whistles (que?!). Think we actually saw them literally prancing around at a Lykke Li and Bjorn dj set party during fashion week. Caught them before the Fool’s Gold showcase dancing by holding one leg and hopping around. Apparently, they are Fool’s Gold new addition as recommended by Bjorn of PB&J. Anyway, their show was probably one of the best shows I have seen in my life. Unassuming, once on stage, their infectious energy completely captivated the Fool’s Gold audience, a group probably used to listening to electro/house/rap..definitely not rock.

Again, thanks Fool’s Gold and Bjorn for finding an extraordinarily talented group of artists and showcasing them during CMJ. Definitely look out for The Suzan this year. I can’t even find any mp3s to download at this point and their Youtube videos seem relatively outdated…so here is a link to their Myspace. Its unfortunate because even their recordings can’t capture the energy that is The Suzan live.
