Well this is pleasant. Not typically a fan of reggae or mash ups but this one is really hard to resist. Check out the latest from Max Tannone, the dude behind Jaydiohead. Don’t know why no one mashed up Mos Def with classic reggae tracks before because his voice is sort of perfect for it.
Finally- an excuse to post a pic from the Godfather and to show off young Al Pacino and his sexy, sexy Mark Ronson-esque thang. Oooh yeaaah.
The Godfather is one of my all-time favorite movies so I got friggin giddy when I heard the theme, “Speak Love Softly” sampled on this Mos Def track. “The Tournament” was scheduled to appear on Mos’ fourth album, The Ecstatic, but didn’t make the cut. Why the heck?
Anywho, I’m digging this track hard. Doesn’t it give you chills and remind you of the old country? lol I’m Filipino btw.
On another note, we were supposed to see Mos and Doom this Friday, but it was rescheduled for Sat. Feb. 13. So if you don’t know/missed that email and was planning on going, now you know. I swear to goodness if Doom reschedules again/cancels I’m going to type really hard on the keyboard and make an angry post or something.
Probably my favorite song off this project with one of my favorite hip-hop artist. If you don’t know much or anything about Blackroc, just know it’s a rock rap collaboration overseen by Damon Dash between The Black Keys and popular rap artist such as RZA, Mos Def, Jim Jones, singer Nicole Wray and NOE. There is a trailer that goes along with this that you can see here.
