dirty south dance 2

So I’ve been hyping this like crazy and now the day has come! Major thanks to A-Trak for being generous enough to release it into the internetz. Sequel to 2007’s first Dirty South Dance (and personal favorite of mine), A-Trak’s back again mashing together popular hip hop songs with dance songs (Claude Von Stroke, Jan Driver and more). Love the inclusion of DJ Craze’s remix of Donnis’s “Gone” and Carte Blanche’s new song with Kid Sister. A deluxe pack will be released with Obey about 3 weeks from now so look out for that. Tracklist below along with previews of songs that have already been released:

The official Electro Wars Mixtape by New Cake Label

The Electro Wars Final Trailer from Stephen Alex Vasquez on Vimeo.

New mixtape promoting the release of the new documentary The Electro Wars. No guarantees that the documentary will be revolutionary but as an electronic music fan, I highly recommend watching the trailer. The choice of interviewees is interesting - ranges from A-Trak, Dave 1, Franki Chan, MSTRKRFT and Spank Rock, to Lil Jon, LMFAO, Pitbull, and 3Oh!3. Its an interesting look at the rise of electro music and looks to explore issues like the democratization of music production, the mainstream popularity of electro music today, the over-saturation and hype of remixes, etc.. More info at The Electro Wars

About the mixtape, its mixed by De Grote Vinnie, Donnie & Sjakie Show of acapella remix fame and features a ton of fun electro songs (hey there Die Antewoord remix!). Good energetic mix. Check out the tracklist below:

Oh snap. Diplo’s been talking about his Gucci Mane mixtape for a while, and its finally out today. We posted Diplo’s remix of “Danger’s Not a Stranger” so give it a quick listen. Mixtape is complete with some dubstep (is that like obligatory in any release nowadays?), random Lil Jon screams (+20 points Diplo), and interesting takes on Gucci. Some of my favorites include the remixes by Flying Lotus, Emnyd, and Diplo’s take on “Excuse Me”. Tracklist below:

DOWNLOAD: Jay-Z x Music Without Borders: Hindustani Gangster (mediafire)

via rubyhornet:

Apparently the tale of Frank Lucas resonates with the themes explored through 1970’s Bollywood, and Music Without Borders, feeling the inspiration, has created Hindustani Gangster blending Jay-Z’s drug dealer narratives with sounds from Bollywood and Bhangra.

I usually hate posting blends/mashups/whathaveyou since there are just so many out there and most are crap… new DJs/producers carelessly and quickly putting something together to get noticed. But a friend put me onto Hidustani Gangster and my goodness, this is an exception. Highly recommended. I’ve been playing this all week. The track above is called “I Know” and definitely a favorite off the mixtape. See more info about Music Without Borders here.

WATCH: Kitsune Maison 8 Teaser

New Kitsune compilation coming out on November 30th. Love the stuff that comes out of there so definitely will be looking out for the 30th!

Tracklisting below with some random/hilarious Kitsune commentary:

  1. French Horn Rebellion – “Up All Night” : We recommend their four Euros D.I.Y. video for such a gigantic song.
  2. The Drums – “Let’s Go Surfing” : They are handsome, dress up fifties and what’s more play good music.
  3. Siriusmo – “High Together” : Sublime and simple. It would make a Cistercian monastery dance. The priests would be allowed to marry if they were listening to this in the Vatican.
  4. Le Corps Mince de Françoise – “Something Golden” * : Slender and Finnish. Connected to French writer Françoise Sagan?
  5. Midnight Juggernauts – “This New Technology” : Panoramic and ambitious, by the most sought-after producers this month.
  6. Heartsrevolution – “Dance Till Dawn” * : The Heartsrevolution couple is back. They’re nuts (we say ‘intense’ to remain polite). They shine of a thousand CRYSTALLIZED™ sparkles. A very 1989 piano for a track that’s already been aired on Gossip Girl for three full minutes.
  7. Logo – “Junocide” : Proper aceeeed to incite you to drive faster. Also perfect for a row.
  8. Two Door Cinema Club – “I Can Talk (Moulinex Remix)” * : Our favourite from Kitsuné Maison 7 is here again, no wonder the band has now signed to Kitsuné. Their album, to die for, will be out shortly. How will these very shy boys deal with the hordes of female fans that will soon land on their doorstep? A song about silence and the unexplainable.
  9. Slagsmålsklubben – “Brutal Weapons” * : We first talked to the Slagsmålsklubben boys in a festival in Finland surrounded by whales. Then in the office it was competition time to see who could say the band’s name the fastest: Slagsmålsklubben, Slagsmålsklubben, Slagsmålsklubben! A track that’s like a grand domino chain-reaction.
  10. Beni - Maximus “(Harvard Bass Remix)”* : Awesome track! Maximus, minimus, very Keith Haring. The video created so much on-line hysteria that we had to stop the comments.
  11. AMWE – “Friction Between The Lovers” : Very inflamed. Amwe is Japanese and a long way from being 6 feet tall, still she wears size 9 Air Jordan collectors. She’s fierce.
  12. Jolie Cherie – “Star” : For once that a band with a French name is actually French and not three Japanese girls with pink hair. This track is the kind of stuff cute Parisian girls who think Kate Moss and go to La Durée listen to.
  13. Chew Lips – “Salt Air (Alex Kapranos Remix)” * : A song about America. They met in a restaurant and Alex Kapranos agreed to do a remix.
  14. Delphic – “This Momentary” * : Believe the hype. Delphic are enormous. Well, they will be enormous. And will remain enormous. We should make a movie, just to place that track in.
  15. Memory Tapes – “Bicycle” : Another Technicolor track that includes a choir and smells good homemade cooking. So Anglo-Saxon it hurts.
  16. Parallels – “Find the Fire” : Kate Bush 2010. The song that the American director John Hughes would have used if he didn’t pass away this summer. Special mention to broken-hearted sixteen-year old girls.
  17. Nottee – “Control” : A girl who’s looking for truth and wants to walk straight. So rare. Totally crazy. Another Kitsuné finding.
  18. ENCORE
  19. Crystal Fighters – “I Love London” * : A future Kitsuné release, for raving mad London queens. And for you too
  20. My Tiger My Timing – “I Am The Sound” : The band (some friends, a brother and sister) is already scouring the venues of Leeds, Bristol and Manchester. The song promises: I’m not trying to chat you up, it’s just we’re going in the same direction and I’m going home. Perfect.

* Single to be released on Kitsuné in the current year

the twelves

The Twelves can do no wrong in my world. This past Friday, they played a killer set at NY’s Webster Hall. After a ridiculously long, bass destroying set from Kill the Noise, it was obvious that the crowd was there for The Twelves. Everyone looked exhausted until The Twelves came on. The happy smile on their faces and the happy music seriously just lifted the mood of everybody. Last time I saw these dudes in Studio B I walked in in the middle of the set and seriously, that was the happiest group of people I have ever seen in my life. The Twelves bring good vibes.

For those who couldn’t quite make it, experience the awesomeness that is The Twelves. Mix is a little old but still great.
